WaveTek's History in Surf Waves is One of Innovation, Determination & Longevity.
For over forty years, ADG's WaveTek has led the charge in revolutionizing the inland surfing industry, spearheading the design and construction of some of the world’s earliest purpose-built surf wave pools in Southern California during the mid-1980s. These pioneering surf pools marked the debut of ADG’s pneumatic-based wave generation technologies, setting the industry standard for wave system performance and longevity, a legacy that endures decades later.
ADG blazed a trail in wave pool technology during the 1980s with the introduction of hydraulic surf pools at Water World, Geauga Lake, and Emerald Point. The innovative intellectual property developed for these pools was later featured at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon, showcasing the early advancements in man-made surfable waves.
In 2006, WaveTek made waves in the industry by creating a full-scale pneumatic-based wave lagoon in Orlando, Florida, solidifying their reputation as leaders in the surf wave sector.
The collaboration between ADG and Surfloch founder Tom Lochtefeld has played a pivotal role in their success story. This partnership began in 2003 when ADG secured the North American license for Tom’s FlowRider sheet wave technology. Over the years, ADG has honed and refined Tom’s original design, enhancing motor controls, soft goods systems, and streamlining manufacturing and installation processes. The commercialization of the FlowRider in 2004 led to the installation of 130 systems across North America, marking a significant milestone in the evolution of surf wave technology.
ADG set industry benchmarks with innovations like stainless-steel construction, diverse wave patterns, and efficient wave chamber setups, laying the foundation for the water park era. Since the 1980s, ADG has supplied systems to over 90% of North American wave pools. Noteworthy innovations include pre-programmable wave patterns, river wave integration, cost-effective pneumatic setups, and 6' pneumatic roller waves.
The latest breakthrough from ADG is EpicSurf®, North America’s premier deep-water stationary wave system. EpicSurf® revolutionizes the inland surf industry by providing an authentic deep-water surfing experience with real-time wave height adjustments tailored to surfers of all skill levels. With its compact footprint and cost-effective design, EpicSurf® offers a compelling alternative to larger progressive wave lagoons, making surfing accessible to enthusiasts across the continent.
